IFTA is India’s 1st people’s Choice Awards, with an aim to acknowledge and acclaim the versatile talent in the Indian Film, Television, OTT and Music industries.
Team IFTA believes that there is no better judge than the audience. So IFTA gave the voting rights to the ultimate consumers of the content – the viewers. There is no jury or panel involved in making the decision for the winner.
IFTA has a dedicated market research team that works diligently to find the potential list of nominees who then compete to win the particular category. Spread across various categories, the IFTA market research team makes nomination lists based on primary & secondary market research and analysis. These lists are then made public for the audience to vote. The Nominee getting the highest number of votes wins that particular award category.
The Boon of OTT
With many OTT platforms available today the competition has also grown. With so many web series across various genres, it is hard for makers to grab the attention of the viewers. In the trend of binge-watching, viewers test the worthiness of a good show with its pilot episode only. That is why web shows have to maintain a certain standard to engulf the audience and to get them to watch multiple episodes and seasons.
These days, web series are also experimental in nature as there is no censor board intrusion. The creative liberty to show certain things unfiltered adds to the relatability factor.
The Web Series that people adored is……..
This series created havoc with its release. People got so engrossed with its pace, plot twists and characters that they never wanted it to end. The first season of this series gave such a cliffhanger that it was impossible for people to not to return for its second part. This is Amazon Prime Video’s ace show, The Family Man 2 that wins the award with 979 votes. The entire camaraderie that Srikant’s character played by the brilliant Manoj Bajpayee, had with the audience is something that is quite evident in this win.
With 488 votes, Netflix’s Kota Factory 2 secures the second position. Kota is a place known for having multiple coaching centres that prepare students to crack the IIT entrance examination. This was a premise that related to youngsters and students who could connect the dots with the hardships that come with coaching. This is a show that also took a different route in terms of cinematography, as it is completely shot in black and white colour scheme.
With 487 votes, Disney Hotstar’s Aarya 2 secured the third position. Who would have thought that Sushmita Sen would make a comeback so magnanimous that the audiences would go head over heels to watch more of her? Sushmita essays the titular role with brilliance. A mother who slowly and gradually transpired into a dreaded gangster after her husband’s death is a premise that was unusual for a show. This show is an official adaptation of the Dutch Show Penoza and just like that show, Aarya will be having five seasons in total.
Some Honourable Mentions
Aspirants attain the fourth spot with 287 votes. This show revolves around a bunch of students who are trying to crack the UPSC examination. The life between the preparation and the examination is what keeps the viewers engaged. This show had a solid cast, very effective background music and great human stories for people to resonate with.
The names that follow Aspirants are Mumbai Diaries from Amazon Prime Video, Rocket Boys from Sony Liv, Human from Disney+ Hotstar and Bombay Begums from Netflix.
